Another Fast-Casual Asian Eatery To Replace ShopHouse In Georgetown

After Chipotle decided to close all ShopHouse locations, a new assembly-line style Asian restaurant will take it's place.

GEORGETOWN, DC — Another fast-casual eatery will open on 2805 M St. NW, replacing Chipotle's ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen that closed March 17, DCist reports.

The Chipotle-owned Asian restaurant will be replaced by a restaurant with a similar dining concept called Bibibop Asian Grill. Bibibop currently has 12 other locations all located in Ohio.

Bibibop is a Korean-inspired restaurant that offers rice bowls with your choice of meat or tofu, toppings, sauces and side dishes such as miso soup, edamame or kimchi. Customers can also order a salad or a roll instead of rice.

Bibibop Asian Grill acquired all the ShopHouse leases after Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. decided to shutter the 15 ShopHouses in Maryland and DC by March 17.

ShopHouse first opened in Dupont Circle in 2011. Since then, ShopHouse expanded to other locations in DC, including Chinatown, Georgetown and Union Station, and a handful of other states like Maryland, California and Illinois.

According to Nation's Restaurant News, Chipotle said in its most recent annual report that ShopHouse was not able to generate enough sales to justify future investment.

Bibiop plans to open all stores early this summer.
