Standoff Ends with Armed Carjacking Suspect in Northwest DC: Police

Nearby streets were closed off for hours Wednesday while SWAT team tries to talk him out, police say.

WASHINGTON, DC — An hours-long standoff between an armed carjacking suspect and a DC police SWAT team has ended Wednesday evening in Northwest Washington, DC.

A man was holed up in a house in the 1400 block of Oglethorpe Street NW; a nearby school was on “lock in” Wednesday afternoon and school officials and police coordinated the safe dismissal of students Wednesday afternoon at Brightwood Elementary.

The standoff began Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

Roads around the area were closed while police try to talk the man out. Streets from 14th to 16th St NW and from Military Road to Montague Street NW and Colorado and Nicholson Street are closed, police said. See map below.
