A brilliant sunrise lit up the Northside of Chicago as Opening Day dawned. The "Friendly Confines" will be a chilly 48 degrees Fahrenheit, but shrouded in sunlight for today's game.
Inside the ballpark, the famed ivy walls are already green due to a warm and at times hot March. In fact, just a couple of days ago the temperatures were in the 70s.
Head Groundskeeper Roger Baird said he never remembered there being green ivy for Opening Day. What a treat!

Outside the ballpark, a few fans were lining up for access to the bleacher seats at 6:30 a.m. Baseball is ultimately driven by its fans, and long-suffering Cubs fans have attained a special place in the annals of fandom.
Matt Hartman was the first person in line in centerfield. He's been to 23 of the past 25 Opening Days at Wrigley Field.

"It's never been about the World Series," Hartman said.
It's a good thing he feels that way because the "Lovable Losers" haven't won one in over 100 years!
