Brazen Shoplifting in Georgetown Has Police Hunting for 2 People

Police are requesting the public's help in identifying a man and a woman at a convenience store on Wisconsin Avenue.


A brazen case of shoplifting at a Georgetown convenience store has police asking the public’s help in finding two people.

The Metropolitan Police Department shared surveillance footage of the incident, in which a man and a woman are seen lining up to pay at the counter of a convenience store in the 1300 block of Wisconsin Ave. NW shortly before 11 pm. Feb. 19. While in line, and in full view of the clerk, the man appears to pick up a long, unknown object and stuff it down his pants, not even making an attempt to hide it -- fortunately for him, the clerk doesn’t look up from his current customer.

The man then grabs another item and casually approaches the cashier with it, having a brief conversation with him as if nothing had happened before departing.

The MPD is classifying it as a Theft II incident, D.C. police’s term for shoplifting. The crime is a second degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

The police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons involved.
