<p>We are looking forward to another great event bringing our community and plant enthusiasts back to the Georgetown Neighborhood Library. The third annual Blossoming at the Library <u>starts on April 25 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM</u>. We are planning following activities for adults and children with the cooperation of our partners: </p>
<ul><li><i>Georgetown BID - French Market</i></li><li><i>Georgetown Library Friends - Used book sale, seeds kit donation, sponsorship for kids and adults activities</i></li><li><i>Tudor Place - Gardening related activity</i></li><li><i>The Friends of Book Hill Park-activities</i></li><li><i>Children's library department - Kids art and crafts activities</i></li><li><i>Adult library department- Adult art and crafts activities</i></li><li><i>Local social groups - Plants and seeds  exchange. <p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc" rel="nofollow noopener">Profs and Pints DC</a> presents: <strong>“Doom and Dinosaurs,”</strong>
 a look at how mass extinctions shaped the dinosaurs and what research 
on these events tells us about Earth life’s long-term prospects, with 
Ian Wilenzik, paleontologist and visiting assistant professor of biology
 at George Washington University.</p>
<p>Pity the poor dinosaurs. They lacked both scientific research to help
 deal with potential environmental catastrophes and places where they 
could have a beer and discuss it.&nbsp;</p>
<p>You, on the other hand, have the opportunity to come to Profs and 
Pints to hear a fascinating talk on the impact of mass extinctions on 
dinosaur evolution and what research on dinosaurs tells us about 
biodiversity and Earth’s current biodiversity crisis.</p>
<p>Dr. Ian Wilenzik, who has studied and taught courses on dinosaur 
evolution, population spread, and extinction, will leave you with a 
greater appreciation of the resilience of life on earth and how we’re 
both the product and source of biologically catastrophic events.</p>
<p>Many of us are familiar with how a big meteor impact about 66 million
 years ago wiped out the Earth’s dinosaur population, leaving us only 
with their feathered descendants, birds. Less well known is how the 
Earth actually has undergone five periods of mass extinction that wiped 
out nearly all life, and how dinosaurs arose from one and endured 
another—both caused by volcanic activity—before meeting their match in 
the third.</p>
<p>To ground his discussion, Dr. Wilenzik will talk about how we study 
mass extinctions by looking for geologic evidence of volcanic activity, 
meteoric blasts, and other catastrophic activity and of gaps in the 
fossil record after them.</p>
<p>He’ll also discuss what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur, describing their
 distinct anatomical features. He’ll talk about how they and other forms
 of life evolved over long periods of time and were affected by 
extinction events.&nbsp;</p>
<p>We’ll look at how the meteor-caused mass extinction that wiped out 
dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous paved the way for the rise of 
mammals and the emergence of primates, and, eventually, us. Looking 
ahead to future mass extinctions and what might survive them, we’ll talk
 about how that plant you forget to water might have the last laugh, as

<p>Distinguished artist and art educator, <b>Vian Borchert</b>, will be teaching a One-day Workshop in <i>"Drawing the Landscape in a Master Artist Style"</i> at <b>Vika Gallery</b> located in Dupont Circle on <b>Saturday April 25 from 10AM - 1PM.</b></p>
<p>In this 3 hour workshop for all levels of students, led by Borchert, students will make an artwork through the eyes of master artist, <b>Vincent Van Gogh.</b><br>Simply bring a pencil and paper to explore the beauty of line work and marks. Borchert, an art educator of 2 decades will do a demonstration along guiding the students step by step to make a study of a Van Gogh landscape and create their own version of it. The instructor will help the students to bring the artwork to a completion. The workshop is for adults, and teens - Minimum age to participate is 14. (One session only.)</p>

ICA Language Services (ICA), a family-owned, woman-led small business based in Arlington, is celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking decades of supporting the U.S. military and diplomatic community through language training and testing.<br /><br />Founded in April 1986 as Inlingua Foreign Language Center, a 6-classroom language school, ICA expanded under the leadership of Deidre Doyle, an entrepreneur with a background in organizational management who joined the company the same year. As a military spouse, she had developed a deep understanding of military organizations and culture, helping shape ICA into a trusted provider of language training and testing for military professionals. Doyle became a partner in 1993 and sole owner in 2009, when she changed the name to ICA Language Services.<br /><br />Today, ICA operates a 60+ classroom schoolhouse in Rosslyn and has delivered nearly five million hours of language instruction and more than 30,000 language assessments across 120+ languages. ICA also provides training on military bases throughout the US and abroad.<br /><br />The company is now led by President and CEO Lexie Casey, Doyle’s daughter, who joined ICA in 2009 after a decade in government contracting. Hi, I'm Shelby! I’m a local mediator who helps neighbors resolve family, relationship, and workplace conflicts in a calm, structured way. Through my small business, Rogers Resolution Services, I offer mediation and conflict-resolution support tailored to your unique needs and help guide people through difficult conversations.<br /><br />I work primarily with co-parents, partners, relatives, roommates, and teams who need help talking through decisions, routines, boundaries, or recurring disagreements. I also support workplaces and community groups facing communication challenges or breakdowns.<br /><br />My role is neutral. I don’t give legal advice or take sides.
