Thursdays, October 8, 15, 22, 29  from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.

This class will explore tradition and nontraditional Japanese book binding tech. The simplicity of a Japanese stab book offers many options for creativity. We will learn the traditional structure and techniques of this book and explore creative options. 

Day 1 / Project 1: Design and prepare book covers for the first book using traditional Japanese book binding techniques. We will discuss the Pros and Cons of different papers that can be used for Bookmaking. Demonstrate paperfolding, cutting techniques, and pasting papers to the book covers.

Day 2/ Assembling Book 1: Demonstrate the cutting, folding, and punching of book signature pages. Assemble and stitch the book.

Day 3 / Project 2: Artistic Japanese Stab Book Project: Design a Stab Book using fabrics, papers, and found objects. Students can bring artwork or items for book design.

Day /- Assembling Book 2: Demonstrate the cutting, folding, and punching of book signature pages. Assemble and stitch the book.

Age Group / Level: Young Adults and Adults who have had experience in making a book.

Supplies: Tools and Supplies will be provided, $25 materials fee, paid to the instructor.
