'Concerned Citizen' Saves Woman From Sexual Assault Attack in Georgetown: Police

GEORGETOWN, DC -- A concerned citizen came to the rescue of a woman who was attacked by a man who tried to sexually assault her in Georgetown early Wednesday morning, and now police are asking the public's help to find the suspect.

Police say that just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 3, a woman was walking in the 1600 block of 35th Street NW when she was approached from behind by a man who brandished a knife and then attacked her "with the intent to sexually assault her," the police report states.

"The suspect was chased off by a concerned citizen and was seen fleeing on foot southbound on 35th Street, Northwest," the report continues. "The suspect may have then gotten into a silver vehicle."

The woman was not injured in the attack.

Police described the suspect as a black man between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, and that he may speak with an accent. He was wearing dark clothing with a hood and gloves.

Police are treating the incident as an "assault with the intent to commit 1st degree sexual abuse."
