Construction to Commence on O and P Streets
The long-planned project to rehabilitate the streetcar tracks on O and P Streets will begin Thursday.

It is actually happening. The much-discussed and long-overdue rehabilitation of O and P Streets from Wisconsin Avenue to 37th Street will begin Thursday. Mayor Vincent Gray will formally launch the project at 10:30 a.m. in front of .
The project will entail temporarily removing the streetcar rails, improving the street and then returning the historic rails to the street.
According to the project website, on Nov. 1, District Department of Transportation selected a contractor, Capitol Paving to begin construction. Current construction estimates suggest a May 2013 completion at a cost of $12.3 million.
