D.C. Lottery Schedules iGaming Meetings for August, September

Lottery officials will hold hearings in all eight of the District's wards to receive community input on iGaming

Ward 2 residents will have an opportunity to learn more about proposed iGaming availability in the District at a meeting Aug. 22 with Ward 2 Council member Jack Evans.

While chairing a Committee on Finance and Revenue Roundtable on iGaming in June, Evans voiced concern over how the programs "will protect individuals from losing their money.”

In July, DC Lottery announced its intention to hold, at minimum, one iGaming community meeting in each Ward of the District of Columbia, a move Evans supported.

"Our civic groups and Advisory Neighborhood Commissions play a vital role in shaping our neighborhoods,” Evans said in news release in June.  “We cannot move forward without providing them the opportunity to weigh in on these issues.”

The Ward 2 meeting will take place at the Shaw Library 1630 7th Street, NW 6:30- 8 p.m.

According to District Council legislation and the rules drawn up by D.C. Lottery I-Gamers will only be permitted to deposit – by debit only, no credit – $250 per week for play. This means that players may lose no more than $13,000 per year, and that DC, which receives half of the loss, can acquire at most $6,500 from an individual.

Other restrictions require users to access the internet only from certified IP address within DC, to be at least 19 years old, and to forgo usage between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. – a mandatory “cooling off period” when the site shuts down.
