Security Situation Monday at GW University

Several streets and University Yard were temporarily shut down around lunchtime by DC police.

DC Police temporarily shut down roads Monday around George Washington University due to unknown security concerns.

The university sent out messages about the closures that restricted drivers and pedestrians for a time around lunchtime but neither the school nor police spelled out what caused police to close down roadways between 20th and G streets as well as 21st and H streets (see map below).

The restricted area included University Yard and the university warned people to avoid the area. No official word on what prompted the shutdown of the roadways and restriction of University Yard. The university deferred questions about security concerns to DC Police.
