DC to Request Funding from Feds for Snow Cleanup

Historic snowstorm dumped nearly 2 feet of snow across nation's capital. City asks residents to not walk on roads so crews can plow.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday morning that the City will officially request funding from the federal government to help efforts to dig out from the historic winter storm that hit the city over the weekend.

Snow totals in the District measured 22.4 inches at the National Zoo, 21 inches in Adams Morgan and 19 inches in Anacostia.

The mayor has asked residents to shovel around their homes and sidewalks and asked businesses to shovel sidewalks in front of their businesses; she also asked residents and businesses to help the elderly and disabled who can’t shovel.

Residents are asked to not walk in streets so that plow trucks can clear the roads.
