DDOT News Release: Changes to Application Process for Summer School Transit Subsidy Program
Application paperwork and cards will be handled directly at the school level. DDOT no longer accepting "walk-in" student travel applications.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced it is changing the application process for the 2011 Summer School Transit Subsidy Program to effectively handle the volume of student applications that are received during the summer.
Through the new process, all student travel application paperwork and cards will be handled directly at the school level. Schools will be collecting the applications and submitting them directly to DDOT to expedite the processing procedure.
The following is important information about the program for students and parents:

- The school transit subsidy program offices located at the Reeves Center will no longer be accepting those applications that are brought in-person for processing.
- All enrolled students requiring Metro travel must complete a Student Travel Card Application from their summer school site.
- Students not enrolled in a full time summer school program are not eligible for subsidized student travel.
- Students with paid summer employment such as participants in the Summer Youth Employment Program are not eligible.
- All applications must be turned in at your summer school site for processing. Walk-in applications will not be accepted.
In addition, we would like to remind you that District law mandates that in order for students to receive discounted travel on Metrobus and Metrorail they must meet all of the following qualifications:
1. Under 19 years of age with the exception of student with disabilities who are eligible until 22 years of age;

2. Resident of the District; and
3. Enrolled in an elementary or secondary public, charter, private or parochial school that is located in the District of Columbia.
4. If students are in an internship program during the summer, the internship program must be non-paid. Students being paid to work do not qualify for summer travel subsidies.
