DDOT Readies for Playoffs

If you are lucky enough to have Washington Nationals playoff tickets and you are brave enough to drive there, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is ready for you, according to a press release. 

DDOT has in place its playoffs plan, which includes traffic control officers, school crossing guards, Road Operations Patrol units on call to handle disabled vehicles and traffic engineers monitoring traffic and adjusting signals.

“We are prepared to get fans in, watch the Nats win, and get home as quickly as possible,” said DDOT Director Terry Bellamy in a prepared statement. “But with sellout crowds, anyone who drives can expect significant traffic, and our advice is to get to the games early. Even better, take transit if you can.”

The Nationals are scheduled to host games Wednesday through Friday.

DDOT will also enforce special traffic patterns after the games.

According to a press release:

• "Traffic on M Street will be directed east or west to reach the 11^th Street Bridge or I-395 on ramps respectively."
• "South Capitol Street traffic will be directed north to reach I-395 or south across the Douglass Bridge to I-295 or the Suitland Parkway."
• Left turns will be restricted after the games at several intersections along M Street, SE
• No turns will be permitted at the intersection of South Capitol Street and M Street, SE post-game.

If driving seems like too much of a headache, Capital Bikeshare will offer a corral at the N and 1^st Street, SE station next to the stadium to prevent full docks from discouraging bikers.
