District Sample Sale: On Your Marks, Get Set...

At the District Sample Sale, you will meet designers and vendors, try before you by, sip champagne and get deep discounts. This beats shopping online any day.

If last year's line was any indication, the District Sample Sale is one of the biggest shopping events of the season. Women queue up for opportunities to shop, compete, enjoy bubbly and help a charity in the process. It looks like this year's sale will not disappoint: As of Monday, a few general admissions tickets ($40) remained, but benefactress ($250) could not be had and the VIP tickets ($100) sold out in one week. Now Wednesday, tickets cannot be had without begging, borrowing or stealing.

In total 24 stores and 8 restaurants will make your discount shopping experience delightful. Well, you and the other 699 women vying for designer wares.

This good cause on Sept. 16. benefits the George Washington University Hospital Mammovan. The Mammovan offers free breast cancer screenings in neighborhoods through out D.C. and its close suburbs in MD and VA. Since its inception the GW Mammovan staff  have screened nearly 19,000 people and have diagnosed more than 71 women with breast cancer.

Barbara Martin, spokesperson for the event, was unwilling to guess exactly how much the event would raise, but wrote in an email, "we have donated $187,550 since we were founded in 2006, so we'll be crossing the $200,000 mark with this event, about which we're over the moon!"

Tickets will be sold at the event. There are deals to be had and a good cause to support!
