Documentary on Photojournalists in Afghanistan to Screen at National Press Club

A special screening of “Frame by Frame,” a documentary that follows photojournalists in Afghanistan, will take place Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the National Press Club.

The screening is sponsored by the Washington West Film Festival and the National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW in DC. A second screening is set for Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bow Tie Theatre in Reston.

The documentary follows four photojournalists from Afghanistan on a 10-year year journey as they wrestle with the new world of a free press after years of rule under the Taliban, according to Washington West Film Festival organizers.
“Afghanistan is in a very particular and uncertain place right now. Everyone is holding their breath,” says one of the filmmakers, Mo Scarpelli.
Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with Afghanistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Hamdullah Mohib, and a distinguished panel featuring the filmmakers and media experts. The panel will be moderated by National Press Club President, John Hughes.
About the Panelists
- Ambassador Hamdullah Mohib - Before being appointed Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Hamdullah Mohib served as Deputy Chief of Staff to H.E. the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Dr. Mohib has a PhD and Bachelors degree with honors from Brunel University in the United Kingdom. He is a published writer on Afghan politics, as well as on academic research.
- Kim Gamel - Kim Gamel is a veteran foreign correspondent who has covered some of the biggest stories in the Middle East, Europe and South Asia.
- Christine Fair, PhD - Christine obtained her PhD from the University of Chicago, Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations in 2004 and an MA from the Harris School of Public Policy in 1997.
- Deb Reichmann - Just finished three-year work for Associated Press in Afghanistan and now covers the State Department for AP.
- Alexandria Bombach, (via Skype) film co director and a filmmaker specializing in documentary cinematography and editing and founder of the video production company RED REEL
- Mo Scarpello, (via Skype) film co director and award winning, independent visual journalist and filmmaker.
