Meridian and ITVS will host a film screening featuring Waste Land, followed by a panel discussion. Filmed over nearly three years, Waste Land follows renowned artist Vik Muniz’s journey to the world’s largest garbage dump in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There he finds an eclectic band of “catadores” – or pickers of recyclable materials – who transform the materials in to powerfully imaginative works of art.
Speakers: Dr. Curtis Sandberg, Vice President for Arts and Cultural Program, Meridian International Center, and Philippa Hughes, Founder and Creator of The Pink Line Project.
The event is free and open to the public.
