Evans Celebrates Milestone as Longest-Serving Councilmember

Ward 2 Councilman and Georgetown resident Jack Evans celebrated his 7,945th day in office as a member of the District Council Tuesday, making him the longest serving member since the council first formed in 1974.

Evans was elected in a special election in 1991 and was most recently reelected in November.

Tuesday he tweeted:

"Enjoying a celebration of my years in the Council, now the longest serving Councilmember in DC."

Former Mayors Anthony Williams and Marion Barry stopped by and fellow Georgetowner and local reporter Mark Plotkin evidently regaled a group gathered for cake in Evans' office with tales from Evans' time on the council, according to tweets from Evans' account.
