Once again I write about another garden. I just realized this as I sat down to write this blog. I guess I love them! It’s a perfect combination to let your kids explore while being in the presence of beauty. Why have we waited so long to visit this not-so-hidden plant museum? I'm not sure. It’s free, peaceful, educational, AND an easy drive (for us, at least). Conveniently, it’s open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. This is perfect for these particularly cold and ugly days. The US Botanic Garden includes: Conservatory (100 Maryland Ave SW Washington DC); National Garden (adjacent to the Conservatory), which includes the Mid-Atlantic native plant garden, Rose Garden, First Ladies Water Garden, Butterfly Garden, and Amphitheater; Bartholdi Park (across Independence Ave from the Conservatory) with a fountain and landscaped gardens.
The outside gardens were dry and a bit unappealing to the eye, but in the spring and summer I’m sure it’s beautiful. My kids didn’t seem to mind though! The Conservatory, on the other hand, had waterfalls, fountains, and trees and plants from all over the world. They also offer classes and programs for little ones.
