First Annual DC Bike Ride Hopes to Attract 8,000
The 17-mile recreational bike ride will raise funds for Washington Area Bicyclist Association and others.
WASHINGTON, DC -- The first annual DC Bike Ride, a 17-mile ride to raise funds for several organizations, including the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, will take place May 22, organizers announced Wednesday.
Cyclists will take to the streets of Washington for the 17-mile, car-free recreational bike ride that will take participants past some of D.C.’s greatest sights, with a finish festival near the U.S. Capitol building.
The first annual DC Bike Ride is presented by BlueCross BlueShield and Events DC, and organized by Capital Sports Ventures. Organizers are hoping to attract 8,000 bikers, making it one of the flagship biking events on the East Coast and a highlight of National Bike Month celebrations.

As the primary benefactor of the inaugural DC Bike Ride, Washington Area Bicyclist Association will receive a portion of the proceeds to fund street safety programs carried out by the organization.
