Food Inspectors Find Debris in AMC Popcorn Machine

A routine food safety inspection at Mazza Gallerie's AMC Theatre earlier this month revealed "unclean food-contact surfaces" and "single-service items unprotected at counter," according to a food inspection report on Washington, DC's city website.

Georgetown's has not had any recent inspections.

Those violations, coupled with the theater's failure to post the "Certified Food Protection Manager" certificate (issued by the city's health department) next to the establishment's business license, all had to be corrected within five days, the report—dated Aug. 2—continued.

"Inspectors also cited mold on the ice machine and debris in the movie theater's popcorn drawer," 9 News Now reported.

Then, an Aug. 22 inspection of the entertainment center found there was no food safety manager on duty, and the establishment was shut down. 

9 News Now recently reported, however, that the theater's food service area has passed re-inspection and is back open again.

Nearby, Cosi (at 5252 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC), was recently shut down for not having a certified food safety manager on duty, added 9 News Now, which also learned of "citations for [keeping] cheese at unsafe temperatures, dirty food-contact points, and mice droppings" at the restaurant.

Cosi is also back open, 9 News Now added.
