Former DC Mayor Vincent Gray says on radio program he is running to represent Ward 7 on the DC City Council.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Former DC Mayor Vincent Gray said Thursday he plans to run for the Ward 7 seat on the City Council.
Gray, who was investigated and cleared regarding finances in his 2010 campaign, talked about his re-emergence on the political scene during an appearance Thursday on WAMU’s Kojo Nnamdi’s radio program.
He talked about wanting to try to redevelop some of Ward 7’s retail areas.

Nnamdi asked Gray about more than $100,000 in campaign money that went unreported and asked if he is worried that he’ll be defined by the investigation.
Gray instead pivoted, talking up his accomplishments in office. He also took questions from listeners:

“I’m glad you’re back in politics,” a listener said and then went on to claim that Gray was investigated under trumped-up charges.
Gray lost the Democratic primary to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser in 2014.
Gray said to be on the lookout for more announcements about his run. Current Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander has said she plans to run for re-election.
