Georgetown Park Secures Permits for Interior Facelift

Though you might not be able to tell when you pass by on M Street, the will be getting a renovation over the next few months. Vornado Realty Trust and Angelo Gordon & Co. received permits last week for interior non-structural demolition, as first reported in the Washington Business Journal.

Most of the shops on the mall's interior have been asked to vacate, leaving the space dim and quiet since most departed in late 2011, early 2012.

The work will take place on both the parking garage and the mall itself. There will be renovations in the retail space at the C&O Canal level, Wisconsin Avenue level, and M Street level. All work permitted at this point is for the interior.

Last year the Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission , like an altered entrance on M Street next to Dean and Deluca.

At the July 2011 meeting, representative for Vornado told commissioners that during conversations with several "high-end" retailers, a glazed facade to broadcast the store's presence was discussed. The mall owners hope to make the entire lower level one retailer, but the store will need an "M Street presence" in the form of a glazed second floor facade near .

At the time the owners said they were "not sure" who the new tenant would be, but the changes are meant to either draw in that tenant and seal the deal.
