Georgetown-Rosslyn Gondola Study Results to Be Unveiled Nov. 3
ZGF Architects will reveal the results of their feasibility study very soon.

GEORGETOWN, DC — It's finally here: the long-awaited results of the Georgetown Rosslyn Gondola Feasibility Study. ZGF Architects will be unveiling their findings at a public event in Georgetown on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Georgetown Theater, 1351 Wisconsin Avenue NW.
ZGF Architects was tapped this spring with conducting the study over whether it would be feasible to connect Georgetown and Rosslyn across the Potomac River with a gondola, linking the two commercial districts. It could be a tremendous boon to both communities, with Arlington residents getting easy access to Georgetown's trendy M Street corridor, and Georgetown residents being able to access the Rosslyn Metro station.
The Nov. 3 presentation will "provide an overview of the transportation/economic benefits for the region; estimated costs and ridership; potential timeline; and other key findings," said a spokesperson for the Rosslyn Business Improvement District. You can register for the event here.

The proposed gondola would run parallel to the Francis Scott Key Bridge that spans the Potomac, which currently serves as the only connection between Georgetown and Rosslyn.
"Urban gondola systems have proven to be valuable transit connections in cities across the globe, and are often developed when waterways and slopes don’t allow for more familiar modes," Will Handsfield, the Georgetown Business Improvement District's transportation director, said in a statement on the gondola project's website. "For Georgetown and Rosslyn, we believe a gondola system might provide a great many benefits by reducing car travel, inexpensively extending a Metro station, and linking Georgetown and Rosslyn’s respective residential and commercial communities."
