Georgetown Students' Cases Dismissed

The three Georgetown students were arrested for damaging university offices during their attempts to evade public safety officers during Hurricane Irene.

Three Georgetown students charged with with in August, saw their cases dismissed in D.C. Superior Court Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Eric Pilch, Sam Buckley and John Flanagan all with the hope that their cases would be dropped upon review. They were each obligated to perform 32 hours of community service in D.C. within four months. Having succcessfully followed through the diversion program and its requirements, all three had their charges dropped just five months after the initial incident.

The three students were out during Hurricane Irene just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 28 when they were told by pubic safety officers to keep away from an esplanade area of the Leavey Center. They fled and locked themselves in a student newspaper office on the fourth floor of the building. They then tried to escape through various means, including crawling through the ceiling and jumping out a window.

, "The students refused to comply with repeated, reasonable requests from uniformed Department of Public Safety officers. This required critical resources be diverted during an emergency."
