Georgetown Virtual Program Saturday Discusses Racism In America

The program will feature Dumbarton House staff and George Washington University history professor Dr. David Silverman.

GEORGETOWN, MD — Residents are encouraged to check out the mural "Strength" located outside of MAJOR at 1415 Wisconsin Ave. NW. The piece was created by Baltimore-based artist Mowgli who also has a mural to the left of this one that honors healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic and is one of several Black Lives Matter messages shared throughout Georgetown, noted the Georgetown Business Improvement District.

Residents also can join a virtual program Saturday from 4-5:30 p.m. featuring Dumbarton House staff and George Washington University history professor Dr. David Silverman who will explore one framework of America's history of racism with a discussion of the book Bind Us Apart: How Enlightened Americans Invented Racial Segregation. Nicholas Guyatt’s book explores how the founding fathers understood racial difference and how their beliefs shape America today. The program is limited to 24 attendees to encourage discussion; click here to register.
