Harlem Globetrotters Bring Anti-Bullying Message to Georgetown

Students from Holy Trinity School learned about the "ABCs of Bullying Prevention"

Harlem Globetrotters Mighty Mitchell and Flight Time Lang dribbled their way across the Key Bridge from Arlington and right into Georgetown's Holy Trinity School.

Mitchell and Lang were greated by a spirited pep rally thanks to some 120 students and their teachers at the Georgetown Catholic school.

"That's the best welcome I've ever had coming into a school," Lang told the cheering students in their auditorium Wednesday.

In addition to showing off their signature dribbling and passing prowess Lang and Mitchell brought with them a message about bullying prevention.

The ABCs of Bullying Prevention program teaches children to take Action when they see bullying, show Bravery in the face of bullying and Compassion to those who might be bullied.

Lang told students that sometimes the best thing they can do when they see bullying or are being bullied is to tell an adult.

"It's not snitching when you're helping somebody," he said.

Once the students could recite the ABCs: Action, Bravery, Compassion, a few lucky students were chosen to learn a few basketball moves.

Four students and their teacher, Mr. Peter Powell, went on stage to learn a few fancy passes. They performed their routine to the familiar Globetrotters theme, much to the delight of their school.

Mitchell and Lang's Georgetown appearance is part of Globetrotter Week, which caps off with three performances in Washington and Virginia later this week. Visit the Globetrotter site for details.
