H&M Opens Up Shop in Downtown Georgetown

The global clothing retailer has just put its branding outside of an M Street building.

Georgetown's fashion-forward M Street just got a bit more fashionable: nationwide brand H&M has moved into town, according to a report.

Washington Business Journal reported that an H&M outlet, which had been rumored to be coming to Georgetown, made it official by putting up H&M branding outside the building at 3245 M St. NW.

The store measures 10,000 square feet and has two levels of storefront. It used to be home to a Mexican restaurant and a seafood restaurant, according to the report.

H&M is short for H & M Hennes & Mauritiz AB, a Swedish retail clothing company known for selling "fast-fashion" -- or, clothing that moves quickly from the runway to the store to capture the latest trends. The company operates thousands of stores in dozens of countries, with the first store opening in 1947. It is the second largest clothing retailer in the world, behind only Inditex, and ahead of U.S.-based Gap Inc.
