ICYMI: Love Belgian Beer? Georgetown Bar Has a Big Celebration Going on Right Now

In just a few days, Belgium will celebrate the anniversary of when Leopold of Saxe-Cobourg swore allegiance to the new Belgian constitution in 1831, creating a new independent state -- so why not celebrate in Georgetown by enjoying a few Belgian beers?

The Sovereign in Georgetown will be celebrating its very first Belgian Independence Day since the bar opened, and Beer Director Greg Engert and Chef Peter Smith have created a month-long celebration to commemorate the occasion.

Belgian National Day is celebrated July 21, but here in Georgetown you'll have multiple occasions to celebrate, as the Sovereign will be offering weekly lambic features every Wednesday in July at 5 p.m.

"Enjoy a slew of rare and delicious lambics, with new bottles being served every Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m.," the statement reads. "No reservations required, and beer will be priced by the glass."

That's not all: the bar will also host a Belgian Trappist Tasting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23.

"Explore the flavors, techniques and traditions of Trappist brewing in Belgium, and sample hard to find selections, like Westvleteren 12 and Westmalle Extra," the statement adds.
