Incredibly Bizarre Ad for Georgetown Optician Has to be Seen to be Believed
A new Wes Anderson-style ad showcases some local eyewear.

GEORGETOWN, DC — Georgetown Optician on Wisconsin Avenue isn't your average eye doctor. In fact, they're perhaps the most delightfully weird shop you can find in Georgetown, at least if you believe their ads.
A new video that more closely resembles a Wes Anderson film than a typical ad for eyewear has been released by the local vendor, and it's like nothing you're likely to see on TV in the D.C. area -- or anywhere else for that matter. It was created by Design Army, an ad agency that was responsible for a similarly styled ad for Georgetown Optician last year.
The ad features the Voorthuis family, which in the ad is absolutely obsessed with eyes and eyewear. In the spot, titled "The Eye Ball," family matriarch Grandma Ida loses her precious pair of glasses, only to find it later in a most unexpected place. The agency calls it a "wild tale involving a short-sighted optical instruments heiress, villainous butler, purloined heirlooms and a cast of 50 hunting hounds."

More than just telling a story, the ad reinforces the narrative that Georgetown Optician really, really cares about good eyewear, and plenty of pieces -- more than 60 -- are showcased throughout the two-minute, 16-second video.
Georgetown Optician says the film was shot in a historic mansion in Maryland horse country by director Dean Alexander.
