Information Still Sparse After an MPD Detective Struck a Pedestrian in Georgetown

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has not released any information on the status of the detective involved in the collision on Oct. 5 in which a by an unmarked police car while using a crosswalk on Wisconsin Avenue.

According to the traffic crash report, a 30-year-old woman was using the crosswalk at 35th Street and Wisconsin Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. when she and her dog were both hit by a car. MPD Detective Samuel McGee, 43, was driving the blue 2008 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Wisconsin Avenue.

Patch inquired as to the status of the investigation and what, if any, disciplinary or legal actions had been taken against the detective involved.

"This incident is under investigation and we don’t comment on personnel matters," wrote MPD's Director of Communications, Gwendolyn Crump in an email to Patch.

Since the crash, representatives from both Advisory Neighborhood Commissions that span the area (ANC2E and ANC3B) have requested a safety review of the crosswalk.

DDOT Spokesperson, John Lisle, told Patch in an email, that his agency was making changes to the crosswalk to improve pedestrian safety. DDOT will install “bump-outs” on 35^th Street with the goal of shortening the cross walk and creating a sharper radius to slow a turning driver.

However, the October incident was a head-on collision in which the driver was not making any turns.
