It Was a Dark and Stormy Night...

Amazing photo taken by Senate Sergeant at Arms office Monday night shows lightning strike at U.S. Capitol building.

The DC metro region was under a thunderstorm warning Monday night and Mother Nature put on quite a light show. As you can see from this photo, the area got hit hard by some heavy-duty lightning strikes.

This photo of a lightning strike Monday night at the U.S. Capitol building was posted on Twitter by the Senate Sergeant at Arms office, @SenateSAA.

The scaffolding surrounding the Capitol dome is part of the Capitol Dome Restoration Project; the Tholos (part of the Dome located below the Statue of Freedom) will be enclosed by a white protective enclosure for the removal of paint until summer of this year, according to the Architect of the Capitol’s office.

The weather in the metro DC area is supposed to be mostly sunny on Tuesday, warming up to a high of 88 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
