Judge Says OK to Retrial of Chandra Levy Murder Case: Report

A D.C. judge has granted a retrial to a man convicted in the 2001 murder of intern Chandra Levy, according to a report Thursday morning by The Washington Post.

Levy, a California native, was 24 years old and an intern with the Federal Bureau of Prisons when she disappeared in Rock Creek Park while jogging in 2001. Her remains were found a year later.

Ingmar Guandique, 34, was convicted of killing Levy and sentenced in 2010 to 60 years in prison largely on testimony from a one-time cellmate who was reportedly trying to curry favor with prosecutors, The Post reports.

The case was further sensationalized at the time when investigators found that Levy had been having an affair with a married California congressman, Gary Condit who was cleared in the case.
