Lilly Pulitzer Opens Its Doors in the Heart of Georgetown

The preppy resort wear shop is now ready to serve your summer beach needs.

Summer is almost upon us, which is why it's the perfect time for a brand new Lilly Pulitzer store to open up in Georgetown this past week.

The preppy resort wear company is opening its first store in D.C., although it already has shops in Alexandria and McLean on the Virginia side, and in Bethesda, Md.

The store is known for its beach-ready outfits, tunics and accessories, based on popular styles in Palm Beach, where the store gets its inspiration. Expect lots of pink and green and blue when you walk into the shop, and a general beach-y vibe.

The store is located at 1079 Wisconsin Ave. NW, right in the heart of Georgetown and just a stone's throw away from the golden dome of the iconic Riggs Bank building on M Street.

The store is named after an American socialite and fashion designer who passed away in 2013 at the age of 81. She was known for producing bright and colorful floral prints, and her style earned her the nickname, "Queen of Prep."

"She lived in Palm Beach, a resort town, year round while all of her friends merely visited," states the Lilly Pulitzer website. "She created a dress that suited her needs - the shift with high slits on the side... and it just so happened that she also created a new genre of fashion in the meantime - American Resort Wear."
