Loaded-Gun July Fourth March Cancelled

In case you missed it in May, loaded-gun march organizer Adam Kokesh decided to cancel his planned July 4th "Open Carry March on Washington." The route would have begun in Virginia and moved into the District. 

While it is legal for D.C. residents to have registered firearms in their homes, guns may not be carried in public.

Kokesh was advised by D.C. Chief of Police Cathy Lanier that his march would be met by law enforcement officers upon their entry into the District. 

"Passing into the district with loaded firearms is a violation of the law and it will be treated as such,” Lanier said during an interview with NewsChannel 8.

The U.S. Park Police (USPP) have been spreading the word about the cancelled march and alerting people about where the District's gun laws are enforced.

Portions of the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) is located in the District of Columbia, according to USPP. 

USPP offers the following advice for visitors to the District who may plan on carrying fire arms:

"Theodore Roosevelt and Columbia Islands are located in the District of Columbia.  While most of the GWMP is located in Virginia, both the Theodore Roosevelt Island and Columbia Island is actually located in the District of Columbia.   A good rule of thumb for Columbia Island, which includes the LBJ Memorial Grove, Lady Bird Johnson Park and Columbia Island marina, is that it surrounded by the Potomac River to the east and Boundary Channel to the west."
