Swift kicked off the nearly two-hour show Monday night with “New York,” and kept the crowd -- wearing light-up bracelets they received when entering the concert -- on their feet with hits off her new album (”Bad Blood,” “Shake It Off,” “I Wish You Would”) plus her older country-tinged favorites including “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “Love Story.”
The show featured costume changes, back-up dancers and promised surprises.

Many in the audience — some of them “super fans,” aka “Swifties,” dressed in costume or carried signs — were wondering: Who will Swift bring out as a surprise guest for her DC shows? She didn’t disappoint.
It was someone equally as regal —fellow Grammy winner Lorde, aka New Zealand singer Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor. The crowd thundered their approval, singing along as the two sang Lorde’s hit “Royals” together.
The night wasn’t without the kind of glitches that take sometimes place during live performances. A lift malfunctioned during the night: “This thing is acting really weird because it got rained on and I think it broke [...]” Swift said, seemingly unphased. “They just told me in my ear I might be stuck up here forever.”
A few rain drops fell on the crowd in the beginning and middle of the concert, but not enough to dampen the spirit of Swift’s fans.
The evening ended with a bang — with Swift’s megahit “Shake It Off,” and fireworks popping overhead and lighting up the sky over the sea of fans.
