M&T Bank Opens, Commander Salamander is No More

M&T Bank opened a Georgetown branch at 1420 Wisconsin Ave.

Another bank has opened in Georgetown; M&T Bank now occupies the space once home to Commander Salamander at 1420 Wisconsin Ave., NW.

“This is a convenient location that will help us to serve existing customers and attract new customers," said Steve Heine, M&T Bank’s greater Washington market manager, in a press release.

The new bank at 1420 Wisconsin Ave. is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It has a night depository and an ATM.

In addition to more traditional banking services, the Georgetown location offers wealth management services provided by Wilmington Trust, an M&T Bank affiliate, according to the release.

A bank might not be exactly what most Georgetowners wanted to move into the empty retail space. In April for the location and a popular idea was a "bookstore-cum-wine-bar." Though M&T offers a "customer service center," that's probably not what the commenters had in mind.
