Major Weekend Metro Work May Cause Delays: Dec. 1 - 2

If you're taking the Metro this weekend, you should get to the station early and plan accordingly.

GEORGETOWN, DC — There's plenty to see in the D.C. metro area this weekend — including Georgetown GLOW, The Enchanted Forest, ZooLights, and the Chanukah Hot Chocolate 5K.

If you're thinking of taking the Metro on Saturday, Dec. 1 or Sunday, Dec. 2, you might want to get to the station early. Service changes and a shutdown of the Yellow Line may cause some delays. Here's everything you need to know before heading out for the weekend:

Blue Line trains will be running between Franconia-Springfield and Largo Town Center and between Huntington and Largo Town Center:

There is no Yellow Line service until Sunday, Dec. 9. If you're traveling between Virginia and D.C., use the Blue Line. The shutdown is part of Metro's 14-day capital improvement project. For more information about Yellow Line service and alternative transportation options, click here.

Green Line trains will run on a regular weekend schedule between Branch Avenue and Navy Yard, and between Mt Vernon Square and Greenbelt. Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Navy Yard-Ballpark, Waterfront, Gallery Place, Mt Vernon Square, L'Enfant Plaza, and Archives.

A note about Archives: Due to street detours around Pennsylvania Avenue, there will be no shuttle bus service from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday. Metro riders should consider L'Enfant Plaza,Gallery Place, and Judiciary Square stations during this time.

Waterfront, L'Enfant Plaza (upper level), Archives (lower level), and Gallery Place (lower level) will be closed.

Due to track work, the last Navy Yard-bound and Mt Vernon Square-bound Green Line trains will be departing earlier than normal:

  • If you're catching the last Navy Yard-bound Green Line train, it will be leaving Branch Avenue — and subsequent stations — 19 minutes ahead of schedule
  • If you're catching the last Mt Vernon Square-bound Green Line train, it will be leaving Greenbelt — and subsequent stations — 32 minutes ahead of schedule.

Red, Orange, and Silver line trains will be running on a regular weekend schedule.
