Metropolitan Police Department: Arrest Made In A First Degree Child Sexual Abuse Offense In Washington, DC

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth and Family Services Division, Physical and Sexual Abuse Branch, announce an arrest has been made in First Degree Child Sexual Abuse of a Secondary Education Student and Second Degree Child Sexual Abuse of a Secondary Education Student offenses that occurred in the District of Columbia.

The investigation revealed that between May 2018 and June 2018, the suspect sexually abused the female victim on multiple occasions in Washington, DC. At the time of the offenses, the suspect was employed as a teacher and rowing coach at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland.

On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 47-year-old Kirkland Shipley, of Northwest, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Child Sexual Abuse of a Secondary Education Student and Second Degree Child Sexual Abuse of a Secondary Education Student.
