Weather service expands alert for region. Here's what they're saying.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Georgetown this afternoon, that extends until Sunday at 6 a.m.

The Winter Storm Warning, issued Saturday at 4:53 p.m., means the area will experience or is experiencing a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain; the warning is in effect until Sunday at 6 a.m.

Expect accumulations of 4 to 6 inches of snow, the NWS says.

Snow will continue into the early evening ours changing to a mix of sleet and freezing rain.

Temperatures in the 20s will slowly rise into the lower to mid-30s by later tonight.

Snow and ice will cause hazardous traveling conditions through tonight and possibly into Sunday morning, according to the weather service.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or are occurring, making travel very hazardous or impossible, the weather service noted.
