New Pastor for Dumbarton United Methodist Church
Rev. Rachel Cornwell returns to church where she was married.

Dumbarton United Methodist Church in Georgetown has a new lead pastor, the Rev. Rachel Cornwell, a former church member. She replaces the Rev. Dr. Mary Kay Totty, who accepted an assignment in Lincoln, Nebraska, after 11 years at Dumbarton
.Rev. Cornwell served as the lead pastor at Silver Spring United Methodist Church from 2006 to 2017 and associate pastor at Bethesda United Methodist Church from 2002 to 2006. For the past three years, she has been program director at the James Company, specializing in helping churches and other nonprofits raise money
In 2016-17 she taught at Wesley Seminary. Rev. Cornwell earned her masters of divinity degree in 2002 at Emory University. She received her B.A. degree in religion at Hendrix College, in Conway, Arkansas, in 1996.

She joined Dumbarton in 1998 but left to attend seminary in Atlanta in the fall of 1999. She met Marcus Meeks (her husband) at Emory, where he was studying law. They were married at Dumbarton on June 15, 2002. They have three children.
Rev. Cornwell was appointed by Bishop LaTrelle Easterling of the Baltimore-Washington Conference. Dumbarton, located at 3133 Dumbarton St. NW, has been conducting worship services via Zoom since March.
