Northwest Little League Team Wins First Game Ever in Little League World Series Play

For the first time ever, a Northwest Little League (NWLL) team won a game in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament of the Little League World Series in Bristol, CT on Aug. 6.

The Summer 12Us team from D.C. beat a New Jersey team that was undefeated in pool play, according to the Bristol Press. 

A message on the NWLL website reads: "Congratulations to our coaches and team!"

The DC team won with eight runs to New Jersey's two runs. Six of the eight runs came in the second inning. Throughout tournament play, the DC team lost three other games, falling to Delaware, Maryland and New York.

The win was a first for the DC league, as the Bristol Press explains:

"Since the District of Columbia began sending its own representative to Bristol to join some of the other top Little League baseball teams at the Eastern Regionals years back, wins have been hard to come by – especially against the likes of New Jersey, which has become a Mid-Atlantic power of late."

New Jersey's winning record (3-1) and defeat of Delware in the regional championship game Sunday, Aug. 12 advanced them to the Little League World Series. That series takes place Aug. 16-26 in Williamsport, PA in includes eight American teams and eight international teams.
