Parasols Are Spreading Through Georgetown in Strangest Sharing Program Yet [VIDEO]

You can get one at any of 49 stories in the area.

Car sharing, bike sharing -- and now parasol sharing.

Georgetown has perhaps the most unique take yet on the share economy, getting dozens of local stores to participate in a parasol share program for people who want to shield themselves from the summer heat with a little Georgetown-branded umbrella.

Plenty of people are taking advantage and sharing their amazement at the very existence of the program on social media.

The program began June 17 and will continue through the summer. The Georgetown Business Improvement District launched ParsolShare to improve the "visitor experience."

The nylon parasols are white and decorated with blue stars with the words "Shop Georgetown Stay Cool" written in red on the outside.

Stores, restaurants, galleries and hotels will offer them, with most participating locations being along M Street or Wisconsin Avenue.
