Police Confirm Shootout on Crowded DC Playground: Reports

Witnesses say two suspects were shooting at each other while children were playing at local playground, Post reports.

A popular Northwest DC playground was the scene of a gun battle between two suspects Tuesday morning, police have confirmed to The Washington Post.

The park is located at 14th and Girard Streets in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Northwest DC.

Children were playing while two men shot at each other, the newspaper reported. Police have not made any arrests, but did say there is surveillance video of the incident.

Police said they were confident that someone would recognize the men, but they have not released the video in their official news releases Web site or YouTube channel.

A parent at a community meeting last night said about 60 people were at the park at the time of the shooting and ran for cover, the Post reported.

Representatives of a church and a preschool said at the meeting they were concerned that police had not notified them of the shooting.

WJLA-TV reported that those at the Wednesday night meeting are hoping to see more community policing in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.
