Police Identify Arlington Man as the Body Found in Georgetown
Police say two men found the body when they noticed a backpack floating in the canal.

Police have identified the man who was found dead in the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal in Georgetown on the morning of April 12.
Police found 51-year-old Osbaldo Lemus Bernal of Arlington near the 1000 block of 31st Street NW. Two men from Maryland came upon the body when they noticed a backpack floating in the water at 7:30 a.m. When they tried to pull the backpack out of the water, they noticed it was attached to man who appeared to be unconscious.
Police are investigating the death but don't deem it to be suspicious based on preliminary information.

Police closed part of 31st Street during the investigation. The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal runs through the heart of Georgetown.
