UPDATE: Murder Suspect Opens Fire, Killed by Police Tuesday Morning

K Street, from North Capitol to New Jersey Avenue, was closed for a time Tuesday morning.

A murder suspect was killed by D.C. police Tuesday morning after he opened fire, according to news reports.

Around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, a task force that included officers with the Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Marshals Office and other agencies, approached a residence where the suspect was believed to have been staying.

The suspect exited a home and opened fire on officers, according to D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier. The man was shot during the exchange of gunfire and pronounced dead a short time later. Police said they will release his name once his family is notified.

No officers were injured in the shootout.
