President Obama will give a speech about his American Jobs Act Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Georgetown in front of the . The president will urge Congress to pass the act, which includes infrastructure projects like repairs for America's roads and bridges.
The District was recently ranked the 20th worst "state" in the country with 12.3 percent of bridges statewide rated “structurally deficient” according to a Transportation for America report. The national average is 11.5 percent.
The Key Bridge in Georgetown was among the worst in the District; though rated structurally deficient, 62,000 drivers cross it daily.

According to the District Department of Transportation, the Key Bridge is not scheduled for rehabilitation until 2015, but the project could be moved up by two years with earlier federal funding.
"Investing in America’s transit systems, rails, roads, ports, and airports will generate tens of thousands of construction-related jobs and put more money in the pockets of working Americans," said Secretary Ray LaHood in a press release in October. "But we must do more. Congress needs to pass the American Jobs Act so we can continue to invest in critically needed projects like these, to repair and rebuild our nation’s transportation system.”
