Prevention of Blindness Society to Honor Dr. William L. Rich
The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington will host its 31st Night of Vision Gala on March 4 in Georgetown.
From the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington: Dr. William L. Rich III of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Northern Virginia Ophthalmology Associates will be honored at 31st Night of Vision gala.
The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington® (POB) will host its 31st Night of Vision® gala on Saturday, March 4 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, with Doug Kammerer, chief meteorologist of NBC News 4, serving as the master of ceremonies.
The Night of Vision gala is a time to recognize and honor a prominent member of the ophthalmology field as well as a community member who has supported the organization’s work. This year, the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington will present awards to two honorees: William L. Rich III, MD, FACS, immediate past president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and co-founder of Northern Virginia Ophthalmology Associates; and Pete Piringer, external affairs and public information officer for the Montgomery County, Maryland Fire and Rescue Service.

Dr. William L. Rich III is currently the past president and Medical Director of Health Policy for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the oldest American medical specialty society. Additionally, Dr. Rich co-founded Northern Virginia Ophthalmology Associates (locations in Falls Church, Fairfax, and Alexandria) in 1976, retiring in December 2016 after 40 years of service to the Northern Virginia community.
“The Night of Vision gala is our annual opportunity to shine the spotlight on individuals who have set a high standard of leadership and commitment to the issues surrounding vision loss and blindness,” said Michele Hartlove, POB executive director. “This event is an opportunity to acknowledge Dr. Rich’s contributions to the ophthalmology community and Mr. Piringer’s commitment to our organization’s work.”

The Night of Vision gala is the signature fundraising event for the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington and all proceeds will benefit local sight-saving programs. The Night of Vision gala includes dinner, live and silent auctions and dancing to the music of Speakers of the House. All event proceeds benefit POB’s local sight-saving programs.
