Previous White House Fence Jumper Killed at Pennsylvania Courthouse

The man has been identified in multiple reports as Curtis Smith, 34, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

A man who scaled a White House fence in March was shot and killed today by a Chester County, Pennsylvania Sheriff’s deputy at the county courthouse, after he charged at another deputy with a knife, local TV station NBC10 reported.

In March, Smith reportedly jumped over a White House fence and was detained by Secret Service, NBC10 reported.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan announced that an incident involving a shooting at the county justice center has been ”neutralized.”

In the statement, made on his Facebook page, the DA added that the county’s Justice Center will remain closed for the rest of the day.

There was an incident in the lobby of the Chester County Justice Center. Sheriff’s Deputies neutralized the threat and the area is secure. The Justice Center will be closed to the public for the rest of the day. More details will follow.

According to the Daily Local News, emergency personnel and deputy sheriffs shortly after noon removed a man from the front security screening area on a stretcher. He reportedly appeared to be handcuffed, bandaged and speaking with medical crews.

The shooting was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m.

In March, Smith climbed over the top of a wall at the southeast corner of the White House complex, The Washington Post reported. He was charged with unlawful entry and was released from custody pending a hearing March 25.
