Robbers Attack Woman in Georgetown, Only Get $30 Worth of Cough Syrup

Police are on the lookout for three men who rushed a pharmaceutical counter Monday.

Police are on the lookout for three men after a violent strong-armed robbery of a pharmacy in downtown Georgetown Monday afternoon that ultimately netted them only $30 worth of cough syrup.

One of the men struck a woman in the face as they fled Morgan's Pharmacy at 3001 P Street NW after jumping a counter and snatching narcotic medications, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.

Police say it all started when one of the men walked into the pharmacy asking about aspirin shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday. The woman who was eventually attacked spoke with him briefly before he left. Soon after, the other two men walked in and "proceeded to the prescription medication area, jumped onto the counter and took the listed items" -- which were two bottles of promethazine and codeine and one bottle of robitussin and codeine, both syrups used to treat flu and allergy symptoms. The merchandise stolen was worth about $30 total, according to the police report.

Another person who was in the store grabbed one of the men, but he was able to get away. The two men were able to reach the front door before the woman confronted them and struggled with a suspect. However, the man who first came into the store asking about aspirin returned when he saw the struggle and struck the woman in the head.

The three men then fled in a black four-door sedan with D.C. tags last seen traveling northbound in the 1500 block of 30th Street NW at around 2:45 p.m. The only description of the suspects provided by police was that they were three black men.
