Robbery Reported On C&O Canal Wednesday

A woman was robbed of her cell phone while walking along C&O Canal in Georgetown.

A woman walking on the C&O Canal near Thomas Jefferson Street NW in Georgetown was robbed of her cell phone just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.

The woman was walking east near Thomas Jefferson Street on the canal, listening to her iPhone and had in earbuds when the incident occurred.

According to a report from Metropolitan Police Department Second District Lieutenant John Hedgecock:

"She was approached by three male subjects.  One male proceeded to snatch the I-phone. All subjects then fled on foot, last seen heading east along the towpath.  The suspect that obtained the phone is described as a black male, 16 to 18 years old, wearing a bright blue T-Shirt with blue jeans."

Both U.S. Park Police and Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a 911 call about the incident.
